Weekend Production

Hello ladies,

I love three day weekends. Love them! Love them!! That extra day makes such a difference. One day to be yourself and do whatever you choose without guilt.  Don’t want to clean, don’t! Don’t want to do laundry, don’t want to do homework, don’t want to wash the floors - don’t!! You have an extra day! Just enjoy it. That’s what I did.

Let me tell you about the Small Town Tour! TB and CS picked me up at Alameda corner on Saturday. We headed north to Carlyle. Checked out Michael’s Coffee Shop - had a London Fog and a cinnamon bun- yum!! Then checked out Kings, Fireside furniture store, the Bargan centre, and Home Hardware - best little home decor section ever! Then headed further north to Wawota to check out Front Porch Interiors. It’s a beautiful furniture store. Next up, we went east to Fairlight to check out the Tea House (great food and home decor). A little farther east to Maryfield to check out a cute little shop called Dusty Road Boutique. Then we raced south to Redvers to check out the cute little store there and had supper at the Optimist (in the old newspaper building). Them back to Carnduff and back to Alameda corner to drop me off. It was such an awesome day.

Sunday was my productive day. I put up my Christmas decorations, which included making a Christmas πŸŽ„!! This is the middle of the door.

That’s what I thought I would use until I saw the sides put together. I grabbed a 2x4 to make the trunk and I had bought the other pieces for this project earlier in the month.

I think it turned out great.

Every Christmas πŸŽ„ needs lights, so I added some!

I think it looks great. I’m going to add the middle door tree to this little collection. I need to figure out another trunk and stand for it.

I’m practicing making 5 point stars out of barn boards. The biggest problem is none of the boards are flat. They all have a slight curve. This one turned out pretty good.

One problem working with this wood is it cracks and falls apart. It’s really not that big of a problem. I just glue it back together.

I haven’t done much sewing these days. I made all the pieces for row 1 of the quilt I’m making for our master bedroom. All those 1/2 square triangles make my brain hurt. Slow and steady is how that quilt will be made. Can’t be distracted while making this quilt.

Back to the grind tomorrow,

Happy Monday

Scrappy tree number two

 Good afternoon ladies,

The quilt cave has been busy this weekend. I had sone green scraps from tree number one so I made a smaller wall hanging for our librarian.  She’s stressed about Covid restrictions and maybe not being able to see all her kids at Christmas so I made her a little pick me up.  I hope it brightens her day.  What’s up with you ladies? Scrappy wall hanging

 Good afternoon ladies,

I wanted something holiday-ish for my classroom door.  Inspired by google images I created this scrappy Christmas/winter tree. While digging in the scrap bags gifted by Me I found a strip of winter patchwork perfect for the border.  Obviously, meant to be.  (One must listen when the scrap bag talksπŸ˜€). I quilted some red garland on the tree, some windy meanders for snow, and voila, scrappy trees.   Her

Knitted cowl

Hello ladies,

It feels like I’ve been working on this cowl for the longest time.

I finally finished it this morning. I really love the colours and how even my stitches are. Knitting in the round turned out to be very easy.

It even has great shape ... but ...

It’s huge!!! Like way way way too big!!!

I didn’t even make it bigger. I actually followed the pattern. I could have made it 20 stitches smaller. And honestly, I’ve got 30 lbs at least on that lady in the pattern 🀣🀣

So, I threaded some left over yarn through it to tighten it up.

But, I’m not sure I like it. What do you ladies think?? Should I keep it or rip it apart and start over?!?!?

I won’t get much done this week. I spent 9 hours at school today and got all my marking caught up. Feels soooo good. We have interviews Wednesday and Thursday evenings. I’m not really looking forward to them being online but it will make them quick!

Happy Sunday!

Sunday scrappy improv finish

 Good evening ladies,

Scrappy improv is done. It’s destined for one of Mr. Her’s almost sister ( his mom’s besties daughter) who lives in Australia and is a vegan, granola, social justice kind of hippie.  She had a baby at the beginning of Covid and although I had baby boy quilts done they didn’t feel right.  This has shades of blue( his middle name means good water), scrappy pick up sticks and some wavy birch tree like quilting.  Of course there are some hearts in the scrappy border to reference his first name which means heart and soul.  Finally, his initials because he’ll never find anything with his name on it. It’s washed, beautifully wrinkled, and ready to ship down under.  Welcome Hutchinson Balou Barker.

Tide pod snowmen

So this project started with an idea from my Aunt.

The first task was to get the labels off, that took my blowdryer and some elbow grease.

Then I lightly sanded them so the paint would adhere. 5 coats later, you couldn't see the orange anymore.

Then the faces were added. I put some stones into the bottom and put the caps back on.

Then I added the dollar store hats and decor that I had in my stash.

They will be given back to my Aunt the next time I can see her.

Scrappy modern improv?

 Good morning ladies,

The title really says it all. Work in progress in the quilt cave.

More to come. Her

Stocking completion and next project

So the stocking is finally done.

It looks like the picture so I must have done something right.

Onto the next project, here is the starting point.

I started with these, then took my blowdryer to them to remove as much of the labels as possible.
Next step is painting them white.

Saturday night sewing

 Good morning ladies,

So I found my sew-jo again at about 10:00 last night.  Mr. Her has to to take his dad for cataract surgery on Monday at that reminded me that I had said last year that I was going to make him a tree. Last year he was a Scrooge and didn’t put one up, saying the dog would wreck it. ( Libby is to obese to have the energy to knock over anything b.t.w.). So I made a small 15x15 Christmas tree he can hang from his mantel.  Goodness knows in 2020 we need all the sparkle joy we can create.  It turned out quite cute.  I might need to make a longer, skinnier one for us.  Her

Saturday morning sewing

 Good morning ladies,

I finished Scrappy Snow Day up this morning. I had done some wavy quilting through each row and column this week.

I used the back as binding because I’m lazy.I may have peaked for the day already. I’ll see if more inspiration is hiding somewhere. What’s up with you ladies. Her

A refurbish of an old ornament

I started this project with something I already had from previous years.

Then I decided to add something to it and found this sign at the Dollar Tree.

I decided to add some color to it and I glittered the snowflake in the word, which is not very visible in the picture. I just have to stick it together and hang it on my hallway door.

The bonus is that all it cost me was the $1.25 for the sign.

Scrappy Snow Day

 Good evening ladies,

I present scrappy snow day.  I had eight full blocks and ten strip blocks this morning.  Now, one six by nine throw quilt is complete.  Apparently I had been storing my sew-jo for a snow day.  This girl is very tired and hungry now. πŸ˜€ Her (no idea why the pic is sideways)

A Knitted Cowl

This is my newest project:

It’s working up pretty quickly!!

I am enjoying the colours in this yarn.

Stocking progress

I have made some progress with my stocking. I am on piece 57 of 93.

The deer needs a head and ears. Then a couple of birds and snowflakes and the mitten name tag.

Ada Shawl

Good evening ladies,
I hope the snow has stopped falling there. We are still getting rain, freezing rain and misting. It’s a mess. It was a good day to finish up the Ada Shawl that I have been working on for some time now. I think I might wear it to work tomorrow. Should help keep me warm! I love all of Toni’s patterns that I have tried. There are a few more I would like to make. She has a cute blog at TLYCBlog.com.

Excuse my hair, I had a hat on earlier!! And the dust on the mirror 😳 I better dust sometime soon.

I like the asymmetric look but I’m not sure how to wear it.

I need to press it, that’s the wrong term but I can’t remember the correct one at the moment, so it doesn’t roll anymore.

Here are a couple close ups of the Tunisian crochet stitch. I love the variation in the hand dyed yarn in both the grey and the lite turquoise.

I think I’ll make another one of these someday!!
Happy Sunday
