Giant couch quilt phase ...

I think this is one of the last of my giant couch quilts that I started years ago.  Can't wait to get it done this week at your place because there's now way I could lay this out there!!!

It touches the floor on both sides of the bed.  Seriously ... What was I thinking?!?!?!?
I do love it even if if there are lots of the same 9 patches beside each other!!
Happy Sewing!!

A Productive Easter Sunday

I hope the Easter bunny was good to you both ...

I figure this is how all of you in the north feel!!  We don't have any snow, thank goodness!!!

I finished the top of the basketball quilt today!!  I'll bring it with me to quilt at your place later this week. Here's how it turned out so far:

Dallas pointed out that the two middle rows aren't exactly even.  I didn't make them that way because I thought it would look okay and I think it does!!!  The next big question, how to quilt it???  I think I'm going to use black thread and do a large meandering pattern.  The t-shirts won't stretch so much if I do that.

I pulled this old magazine after I finished the basketball quilt top.

It's from 2006!!  That's old now!! LOL!!  I still really like the quilt on the cover.  It's simple and would be quick to do.  This is the quilt that I really really like from that magazine!!!

I can't remember when I started to work on this quilt.  Obviously, a long time ago based on the age of the magazine.  I was reminded how much I liked the quilt and thought maybe I should finish it or at least get it going a little more.  I was able to finish 1/2 of the quilt top today.

I didn't do any planning.  I just started sewing and this happened ...

And this ...

And this ... Which isn't that bad!

And these three too ...

There are a bunch of poka dot squares and this is the only one that I've used so far.  So that means that the other 1/2 of the quilt will be over run with them.

That's what happens to when I don't make a plan.  Why can't I be random?

Well I've watched my way into Season 6 of Vampire Diaries and now it's time for this quilter to head to bed!!!
Night Night!!

Origin of the Pink Tournament Quilt

Jessie Smoliak asked me to make a t-shirt quilt for the teacher/coach that started the original "Pink" basketball tournament.  She collected a bunch of the t-shirts that are sold at the tournaments and I found some great pink basketball material for the back.

I'm using my go to charcoal/black material in between and for the boarders.

I cut the t-shirts up and ironed on the fusible webbing onto the back of them so they won't stretch out when I sew them together.  After that, I tried to figure out a layout.  I actually just put them out on the floor to thin about it.

I was just looking at them when Dallas decided to join in and change my plan.

Here's his layout ... Which I am using!!!

Nice and even!!  Everything is balanced in Dallas' world with this layout!!  Except the upside down square on the bottom!!!  I have 2 rows stitched together.  I hope to get the other two rows stitched together tomorrow and have it finished by tomorrow night!!

I got my next quilt all mapped out ...

That's what my instructions look like.  This is what the quilt should look like

I need to get some print material to actually make this.  I've collected a lot of Basic Grey Grunge fabric that is solid and I love it.  I'm just not sure if it would look as good done in solids as it does with 19 great prints.  19 different prints plus white are needed to get this quilt done and a lot of 1/2 square triangles.  I'm going to need help picking out material for this one.  I might just put this one on the "I really want to make this quilt" pile for a while and collect some material.  I also need to collect material for the cow quilts that I need to make for Penny!!  I'm excited because I can actually start to buy material again!!  Woot Woot!!!

Great productive day for the two of us!!!

Day of Productivity

So I had a productive day.  My starting point was this
The original reason for the stall was I had run out of scrappy blocks.  So I made 36 scrappy block and the last star point.  Then I assembled the scrappy blocks into 18 inch bigger blocks and put this all together.
Now I have a dilemma. I knew it would be square when I was designing it and I thought I could be okay with that, but I can't keep it square.  It's about fifty four inches square so I'm thinking I will add 6.5 inches to the top and bottom to make it a rectangular couch quilt.  Something like this pic
What do you think?  How was your day of productivity?

Starting point

Here's today's starting point for attempted productivity.
Hopefully, scrappy goodness will follow from piles like this:
More to follow,

Starting more quilts ...

I started this quilt a while ago and have finally finished the top this week!!  It's called Till the Cows Come Home!!!

I can't wait to get it quilted and to start using it!!  I also will be making 6 of these quilts for Penny!!  Her gang of friends called "THE COWS" turn 60 next year.  She asked me to make each of them their own cow quilt.  Each one will have 6 cows, a barn and a house.  I might add a tree or two!!

This is the other quilt I started this week:

It isn't going to be pretty when it's done but it's the thought that counts right???  I wanted to use large squares to make this so it showed off the prints.  I should have thought about that a little more.  The bandaid material is a little wild!!  I also wanted to use my ruler from JayBird Quilts to make jewels.  It's challenging because I have to sew y-seams together but they aren't that bad.  You would be great at it because you don't have to iron until your all done!!  You do have to pin in a few places or mark the 1/4 inch seam.  Like you said, I can pull this all together with the quilting!!!

I hemmed 3 pairs of jeans, fixed a shirt, hemmed a dress, started to hem a bridesmaid dress, coached skating and watched a lot of Vampire Diaries!!!  Tomorrow, I'm subbing at the Comp - should be interesting.  It's been a year on Saturday since I taught there last.  Then skating and to finish off the night, we are going to a St. Patrick's Day Party!!

Can't wait to see what your up to!!!
