I have been productive!

Happy May long weekend!
I’m so excited for the warm weather. May long weekend is usually an awful weekend in terms of weather but because we are all stuck at home, it’s going to be beautiful. I took advantage of this weather today and planted 85% of my flowers.

This is what I did out front this year:

It’s not as fancy for full as last year but I think that’s okay. The candle holder has a sparkly solar light in it. It’s small, maybe only 3 inches tall but it should give off lots of light. The two hanging plants are Fuchsias. I love them but am not going to live the flowers that they drop all over the ground. I need to paint the middle pot. It looks awful. What colour?? I’m thinking red but if I can’t match the front door, it may not look good.

Here’s a close up of the flower pot:

I love those flowers - the yellow and purple ones! I can’t remember the names off the top of my head but I do know they are good in full sun!! The little pink one in the front is a mini Dahlia. Then the vine like plant is called a Golden. The spike was a gift from a student for Valentine’s Day, the year I taught grade 5. It was obvious it needed repotting when I took it out of the pot. Check out these roots:

There were 4 plants together when I got it. One died last summer and I left the other three together until now.

Mom split her Aloe Vera plant. She gave me one giant one and 4 little ones. The plant in the teal pot is an Elephant ear and so is the one In the yellow pot. The one in the yellow pot is one of the three that I split from the student gift.

This plant was in my bird cage last year. I planted it in that pot on February and it has since exploded. Behind the plant are two solar powered lanterns and a crystal one beside it.

These pots all have mini Dahlias in them. Pink, orange and red flowers. I’m going to add sweet potato vines to the two taller pots.

This is a terrible picture of my bird cage. The green plants hanging down are called donkey tails and those are ones I kept alive from last year. Super proud of that. There is some other kind of succulent that didn’t commit suicide (3 of its siblings did) on the top of the pile of black dirt are two Hen and Chicks. I didn’t mean to put the blue candle holder there but it keeps the dog from bumping the donkeys tail.

Here’s a close up of the succulent that survived from last year:

It’s growing like crazy. It started to sprout new parts in April as soon as the sun started to get up earlier.

Here’s a close up of the Hen and Chicks. I love their colour. Hopefully they stay that colour.

I need to figure out how to keep the dirt inside. I might try to put some kind of screen fabric around the dirt. Not sure that will work or not.

This planter I got for my birthday from my in-laws. I love it!! The big green plant was the last of the three from the student gift. Can’t wait to see how it grows this summer. The little green one is the same as I have out front. In between them, I planted the seeds I receive from Saskatchewan Wildlife. They are flowers for the 🐝!! Down in front, it’s the only hen and chick that survived from last summer.

These two are still empty. I was to find some lemon grass to put in them.

This is the hibiscus 🌺 I bought last year. It has flowered all winter. I love the flowers. They are so big and beautiful. The other pot was my second gift from my in-laws and I love it, too!! I’m not sure it’s going to stay there. It will depend on what I get to put in there.

I split my Boston fern into 2 plants again. These guys will be happy to be outside again.

I planted a bit of the garden - peppers, cucumbers and butternut squash!

Our raspberries are coming up well!! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that we get more than 5 berries!!

After I got everything planted and the watering system set up for the front yard, I sat down to play some fetch.  Jager was getting too hot so I opened up his pool, aka Rubbermaid tub, and he went swimming. Love this picture! You can see the water flying off him as he runs!!

We have a guest living in our west fir 🌲 tree in our backyard. She is very protective of her nest and for good reason, too!!

I made my own birthday cake. Vanilla cake with two layers of vanilla pastry cream, one layer of raspberry purée and vanilla butter cream icing. It turned out fantastic! My cake decorating skills were put to the test 🤣

I was asked to make a variety of signs over the last while. I learned how to add a frame. I think the frame adds to these signs.

I went to Preston and Robyn’s wedding today. We honked our horns and cheered from our cars when they came out of the church ❤️

We taught Mom how to use Snap Chat filters 🤣🤣

I think that’s about all for tonight!
Happy Saturday

  1. Wow, you have been super productive! I haven't done any flowers yet. It got below freezing last night again so sometime this week probably. My succulents always commit suicide as well. I had students give me some last year and they said even I could keep them alive.😂 They were wrong. I really love the signs, the frames really do add a finished feeling to them. I don't see Sharen ever using filters, she can sort of text, but she generally only texts Brandi. That cake looks amazing! Keep up the productivity!

  2. Wow look at you go. The pot would look good red, but I think it would have to be the same as the door. A contrasting color might look good.
